Introduced into the U.S. in 1979 by Anthony Terlato, Pinot Grigio today follows only Chardonnay in white wine supremacy. A mutation of Pinot Noir, the grape is genetically related to Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, hence the name, 'Grigio' or 'Gris' in certan regions, which translates to 'Grey', typically the color of the grapes at harvest. The great virtue of Pinot Grigio is that from the right regions, it can pocess the complexity of a red wine, yet its made into a crisp, refreshing white wine. Because of this, Pinot Grigio is one of the world's most verstatile wine styles, its delicious on its own as an aperitif, but even better with a diverse range of foods, from light to full bodied.
