Manuel Lopez, owner of J.Valle, founded Punch brand in Havana in 1840. In England, a humorous magazine with the same name was published concurrently. The title page of the magazine featured Mr. Punch with a cigar in his hand and a beloved dog at his feet, and this image became the symbol of Punch Cigars. England was their primary market, possibly elucidating their brand choice. Production techniques for Punch Cigars permit wrapping of differing tones, though generally dark brown and reddish sheet tones are used for supplies to England.
